Drive your car until you are at about 1/2 of a tank. Record your odometer reading and you will now know how many miles you have driven. See how many gallons it takes to refill your tank without topping off (use the same gas as before). Divide the number of miles driven by the number of gallons used to refill your tank to get your actual MPG. Now do the same process using your Fuelshark. You will see the difference in increased MPG
